Graduated in Law from the University of Milan in 1978 with a thesis on criminal law with Prof. Cesare Pedrazzi.

Qualified as a lawyer in May 1981. Founded the Arata law firm in 1986. Became a founding partner of “Studio Legale Arata e Associati” in January 2012.


In the course of his career he has followed trials in the various areas of criminal law, obtaining professional mandates in complex legal cases including some well-known company crime trials, and specialising in crime against the public administration and corporate, bankruptcy, financial and stock market related crime, in addition to culpable crime related to accidents in the workplace, and medical liability, environmental and construction offences, as well as issues related to the administrative liability of legal persons.


He is the professor of criminal economic law at the Specialisation School for the Legal Professions of Luigi Bocconi University in Milan and at the University of Pavia since 2003. He has spoken at many conferences held by Centro Studi Ambrosoli. He has written articles for journals of criminal law and criminal procedural law.
